India is one of the most protein-deficient nations in the world — not because the food is unavailable, but because the right protein, in the right form, at accessible quality, simply did not reach the food products Indians consume every day. We started Fytomax to change that. Permanently. At scale.
“With plant-based protein in every Indian’s diet, we want to invert this nutritional deficit — democratically, and for the long term.”

The recommended daily intake of protein-rich foods is well-defined. What Indians actually consume tells a different story — one that has been building for decades and shows up in malnutrition, preventable health outcomes, and stunted growth across the country.
of Indians are protein-deficient
Roughly three in every four Indians do not meet daily protein requirements.
of recommended pulses consumed daily
Average Indian consumes ~38–53g of pulses vs the recommended 80g per day.
of recommended milk consumed daily
Daily milk consumption is ~175g against the recommended 300ml.
| Food Source | Recommended Daily (ICMR) | Actual Consumed (National Average) | % of Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cereals & Millets | 250–275g / day | ~300–396g / day | ~120–145% |
| Pulses | 80g / day | ~38–53g / day | ~47–66% |

India is one of the world's largest soybean-growing nations.
And yet — India's nutrition industry had no domestic source of high-quality Soy Protein Isolate. Not one plant. Not one manufacturer. The most powerful plant protein ingredient in existence, derived from a crop India grows in abundance, was simply not being made here. We could not find a good reason for that. So we decided to fix it.
“If the soy is grown here, and the protein need is here, why is the solution being manufactured on the other side of the world?”
— The question that started Fytomax Nutrition
Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are among the world's most productive soybean belts. The crop, the farmers, and the agri infrastructure are all here. Mahyco Group has worked with soybean farmers across these regions for decades.
Soy Protein Isolate achieves a PDCAAS score of 1.00 — the highest possible, equal to casein and whey. Complete amino acid profile for all age groups. The solution already existed scientifically.
India's nutrition industry needed a domestic, high-quality, traceable SPI source. No one had built that plant.
Mahyco Group — agri expertise across farmer networks. Kanoria Chemicals & Industries — industrial scale and process infrastructure. Together, the founding of Fytomax Nutrition Private Limited.
We chose soy because the science is unambiguous — no other plant-based protein delivers complete nutrition at the quality, digestibility, and sustainability that soy achieves. We chose soy because it is the right answer for India's nutrition challenge.
The only plant protein to achieve maximum digestibility score. Equal to casein, whey, and egg white. Every essential amino acid. Every age group.
Least land and water input per kg of protein output compared to any animal protein. The most nutritious protein is also the most sustainable one.
At 90%+ protein content, SPI carries more protein per gram than any whole food. Can be incorporated into everyday Indian food without changing what people eat.
| Protein Source | PDCAAS Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| Casein & Whey | 1.00 | Maximum |
| Soy Protein Isolate | 1.00 | Maximum |
| Egg White | 1.00 | Maximum |
| Beef Protein | 0.92 | High |

India does not have a soy problem. India does not have a farmer problem.
India does not have a nutrition science problem.
India had a manufacturing gap. We closed it. Fytomax is the result — and the beginning.
